Family Dental Care: Do Not Ignore These Dental Issues

Dentist Blog

Oral care is an important part of overall body care and health. It includes practices such as brushing teeth at least twice a day, flossing, using mouthwash, and regular dental checkups. However, it's easy to overlook these recommended oral practices for one reason or another. Unfortunately, doing so could lead to dental problems that can easily develop into life-threatening dental emergencies. This article looks at a few signs indicating that it's time to visit a dentist.

Swollen and Bleeding Gums

When your gums become swollen and start bleeding often, it could signify that your roots are infected. Most times, inflamed gums appear to be reddish and are very painful. This is indicative of gingivitis, which requires immediate treatment. Inflamed gums could easily develop into a dental emergency if not attended to. It is therefore advisable to visit your dentist so that they can prescribe the medication to treat the condition.

Cracked or Chipped Teeth

Cracks on the teeth can be small and unnoticeable or large and painful. Some cracks could also be deep and cause bleeding. However, all cracks can cause massive damage to the root of the tooth or even tooth breakage if not treated in time. Chipping occurs when a piece of tooth breaks or wears off.

Usually, cracking and chipping of teeth result from physical trauma or low calcium levels and need dental attention. A proficient dentist will recommend the appropriate treatment to cover the cracks, preventing further damage and restoring your dental aesthetics.

Toothache That Won't End

Toothaches are a common occurrence. If the pain becomes unbearable, it could affect other aspects of your life, such as sleep and feeding patterns. A toothache could be caused by a tooth cavity characterized by a hole in the tooth that exposes the nerves in the pulp.

Tooth cavities should be treated urgently. If left untreated, the infection could spread and become life-threatening. So if you experience a toothache, you should visit your dentist immediately. If the pain emanates from a cavity, they can suggest having the hole filled or complete tooth extraction if the cavity is extensive.

Broken Dental filling

Dental fillings are usually susceptible to breaking if not well handled. Therefore, you should care for your fillings to prevent them from loosening or falling out. It can be quite painful when a filling breaks or gets out of position. This situation calls for the immediate attention of a dentist to prevent further damage to the tooth.

Dental problems can become painful and unbearable if not addressed in time and lead to even more serious systemic health issues. Therefore, if you experience any of the above symptoms, it is advisable to see your dentist immediately. A competent family dentist will diagnose the dental problem and treat it accordingly.

Emergency Dental Care

The average dentist takes many client appointments each day and also deals with emergency situations on a regular basis. Dental emergencies are very common because people are likely to put off having tooth pain fixed until the pain becomes unbearable. Some people have anxiety about dental visits, and others are trying to avoid the expense of dental care. In either case, the end result is often a dental emergency. I have worked as a professional dental hygienist for many years and have seen all types of dental emergencies. I hope that this blog will help people identify potential emergencies before they become too serious and will allow people to know when to get help.
