2 Advantages Of Using Invisible Aligners Instead Of Braces To Straighten Your Teeth

Dentist Blog

As an adult, you may finally be at a point in your life that you are tired of your crooked smile and are ready to do something about it. However, you may cringe at the thought of getting braces. If so, consider the advantages of using invisible aligners instead of traditional braces to straighten your teeth.

1.  Aligners Are Easier to Clean than Braces

Traditional braces can take a lot of work to ensure that they and your teeth stay clean. After every meal, you have to brush to your teeth, and if there is anything stuck between your teeth and the wires or brackets, you have to use a special pick to remove it. Also, tartar and plaque easily collect and build up around the braces which makes keeping your teeth clean a challenge.

However, with invisible aligners, you do not have to worry about food become stuck on anything, since you can remove the aligners while you eat. And, while brushing your teeth after eating is usually recommended, if you're in a rush you can get away with simply rinsing your mouth out with water.

If you do forget and leave the aligners in while you eat, causing them to get food on them, you can remove them and brush them with a soft-bristled brush. This helps cut down on the time spent ensuring your oral hygiene needs are met over having to spend the extra effort you would on braces.

2.  Food Restrictions Are Almost Non-existent

Another advantage of having aligners is that you do not have the food restrictions as you do with braces. When you have braces, foods that are sticky or hard are completely off-limits, as they can pull on wires and damage brackets. Until you have the braces removed, you have to forego many of your favorite foods.

However, with aligners, you do not have to eliminate hard or sticky foods. Since you can remove the aligners before you eat, you can still enjoy a piece of hard candy or pizza crust without worry about doing any damage. Once you are finished eating or snacking, simply brush your teeth to remove any sticky residue, and replace the aligners.

The above advantages are just a couple of ways that aligners prove more beneficial than braces when it comes time to have your teeth straightened. Make an appointment with a dentist or orthodontist to learn more about the benefits of invisible aligners as well as the process involved in using them.

Emergency Dental Care

The average dentist takes many client appointments each day and also deals with emergency situations on a regular basis. Dental emergencies are very common because people are likely to put off having tooth pain fixed until the pain becomes unbearable. Some people have anxiety about dental visits, and others are trying to avoid the expense of dental care. In either case, the end result is often a dental emergency. I have worked as a professional dental hygienist for many years and have seen all types of dental emergencies. I hope that this blog will help people identify potential emergencies before they become too serious and will allow people to know when to get help.
